This is Wanderneuring, a newsletter about exploring the ideas and places that resonate and hold importance in our world. Those places tend to be the nooks and crannies that are often overlooked or missed because they don’t have the caché or glamour of easy access, teeming tourists, and slick selfies. I find the unnamed canyons, hard to access points, and mostly untrammeled places better for wrestling with the big issues society likes to get worked up about, but only really ever lip service to as it tries to minimize disruptions to the profit margin.

Fuck profit margins. I lean into topo lines, warm beers carried long miles, unscouted rapids, questionable climbs, and companions who are eager to explore the unknown even if it involves some suffering, and laughing until puking is a real possibility. I tend to refer to the adventures I embark on as Bad Idea Projects. You can take that as a warning or as an incentive.

You can expect reasonably good grammar, a tendency toward humor, a willingness to hear your feedback, thorough safety plans, an eagerness to share, comprehensive route planning, some profanity, and a deep commitment to being outspoken in my informed opinion. I expect you to be brave, passionate, open to sharing your opinion (including how much you are suffering), and curious.

Shrug off some responsibility, turn left and ditch the traffic, stuff a little gear in a bag, grab some water and join me for some wanderneuring. I’m not sure where we are headed, and that’s the point. Destinations are traps best stumbled onto.
